Montreal Mini-Storage (MMS) opened its 24th location on August 24, 2025, in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Quebec. While the ground floor is now accessible to customers, the second floor remains under construction. Once completed, the facility will feature 800 storage units.
Margaux Chetrit, MMS's director of business development, highlighted the significant role women play in household decision-making, especially regarding storage needs as children leave home or when caring for elderly parents.
To celebrate the grand opening, MMS donated free self-storage space to Monthly Dignity, an organization that addresses menstrual health and education issues.
Previously, on June 1, 2015, MMS announced another new facility in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
This location, situated at 500 Sauvé St. W., was designed specifically to cater to women and incorporates energy-efficient features, including parking for a local car-sharing service. The project was spearheaded by an all-female leadership team, which includes Tonia Assaf and Andrea Lafrechoux.
Chetrit remarked on the self-storage industry's historical oversight of women's needs, stating the facility aims to be a secure and welcoming extension of the home, suitable for storing family items, business inventory, or personal belongings.
The two-story building encompasses 82,000 square feet with various customer-friendly features, such as 24/7 video surveillance, loading areas, and an appointment-based service for unit management.
As part of its commitment to women entrepreneurs, MMS is offering 90 days of free storage for women using the space for business inventory, alongside a wage-gap discount of $0.82 on the dollar for the first year of tenancy.
MMS plans to collaborate with local artist Amelia Haddouchi for a mural representing creativity and community within the facility.
Founded in 2004, MMS operates nearly 11,000 self-storage units and is a subsidiary of Avenir Properties, which specializes in commercial and industrial real estate.
