The rise of Electronic Low Voltage (ELV) lighting systems has shifted the smart home landscape, particularly with the introduction of smart lights and switches. ELV dimmers are designed for use with electronic transformers, providing smoother dimming for LED and halogen fixtures without the flickering associated with traditional incandescent dimmers. Companies like Lutron and Leviton are now offering new ELV switches and dimmers to optimize lighting control.
Recently, Cync launched the Cync Reveal HD+ Smart Undercabinet Bar, touted as the first edge-lit smart undercabinet light in North America. This innovative lighting device seamlessly blends functionality with contemporary design, offering a range of key features ideal for modern kitchens.
Key Features of the Cync Reveal HD+
The Cync Reveal HD+ is compatible with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, allowing for effortless voice control. Operating on the Matter wireless protocol, it can also connect through any compatible Matter controller, including Savant Home systems. The lighting technology ensures vibrant colors and exceptional clarity, offering users the choice of millions of colors and smart dimming features. The device requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection and supports Android 8 or higher and iOS 14 or higher.
Equipped with advanced app features, users can set schedules, create light scenes, control lighting remotely, and adjust colors. The design minimizes glare compared to traditional lighting, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience. Installation is straightforward, with three available sizes: 12-inch, 18-inch, and 24-inch, and multiple bars can be linked for larger coverage.
Installation Insights
During testing, installation went smoothly for our plug-in setup. However, transitioning to a direct wire installation was more complex and required replacing existing lights, which may necessitate professional help for those unfamiliar with electrical work. Clear instructions in the Cync app simplify the process, allowing users to unbox, prepare, and install the bar efficiently. Users can download the app and use QR codes for quick connectivity.
Pricing and Availability
The Cync Reveal HD+ Smart Undercabinet Bar is available at various price points: $59 for the 12-inch model, $64 for the 18-inch variant, and $69.99 for the 24-inch option. Discounts can be found at major online retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.
Testing Feedback
After weeks of testing, I noted several advantages. The bar facilitates easy installations and can replace existing fixtures with minimal hassle. With the capability to connect up to 10 bars, it fits well into larger kitchen layouts. The light quality, at 750 lumens, boasts a long lifespan of 50,000 hours, offering both functionality and ambient lighting.
However, there are areas for improvement. Users reported confusion caused by different connectivity protocols for the Cync app and Matter setup, with the former offering more features. The device’s reliance on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection limits options for faster connectivity, and the thick power cord poses aesthetic challenges.
Overall, the Cync Reveal HD+ Smart Undercabinet Bar provides an excellent smart lighting option, balancing a variety of features and modern aesthetics, making it a worthwhile addition for enhancing kitchen environments.
