Tiny homes are often confined to 60 square metres or less, yet creativity knows no bounds. These seven exceptional designs showcase bold colours, inventive use of space, and unique storage solutions that elevate their character and usability. From a 22-square-metre studio in Paris crafted from salvaged materials to a futuristic Madrid apartment organized around a striking triangular shape, these small spaces make significant visual statements.
Parisian Cartoon Haven
A 40-square-metre apartment in Paris embraces a whimsical cartoon theme, designed by Anthony Authié of Zyva Studio. The owner, involved in the events industry, allowed Authié complete freedom to create a vibrant environment. Drawing inspiration from 1990s animated films like Roger Rabbit and Space Jam, the design features a flying pool-blue staircase alongside a wall of glass blocks. An orange bookcase and a bubble-shaped sofa add to the playful aesthetic, enhanced by a disciplined layout that unites colours and forms.
Futuristic Madrid Design
In Madrid, a 60-square-metre apartment designed by architect Pedro Pitarch demonstrates bold spatial planning. The design centers around a triangular aluminium volume that houses essential utilities, creating an almost dreamlike environment. This triangular feature divides the apartment into sleeping, cooking, and working spaces while maintaining an open feel through sliding doors and mixed materials like wood and terrazzo.
Elektro-Haussmann in Paris
Another Parisian gem is a 45-square-metre apartment known as the “Elektro-Haussmann.” Designed by Authié for French DJ Myd, the home bursts with colour, featuring baby blue, pink, and bright yellow accents inspired by the musical styles of Daft Punk. Authentic 1930s features like cornices and parquet flooring remain intact, blended with whimsical furniture and custom storage solutions that create a fun and visually stimulating living space.
Tranquil Japanese-style Refuge
Designer Hélène Lacombe transformed a cramped 33-square-metre Paris studio into a serene Japanese-inspired oasis, eliminating an unnecessary corridor to create a spacious living area. The home, located in a courtyard in Pigalle, features an elegant sofa bed and a bright open layout with ample storage and a private terrace. Warm materials and a cohesive colour palette contribute to its tranquil atmosphere.
Bijou Almaty Apartment
This 31-square-metre apartment in Almaty, designed by Fariz Mamedov of FM Interiors, draws on a rich colour scheme integrating Bordeaux red, dusty blue, and ochre. The design connects classic French styles with Moroccan elements and references to Kazakh architecture, creating fluidity between zones. Mirrored and metallic features enhance the sense of space, while a visual arch nods to traditional elements of local culture.
Melodic Malta Studio
Designer Martina Fenech Adami created a vibrant 28-square-metre studio in Malta that plays with colour as a design strategy. Influenced by the Memphis Movement and Bauhaus, the layout incorporates striking blue, yellow, and red hues, designed to enhance the sense of connection with the outdoors. Custom furniture maximizes efficiency, producing an engaging environment that blurs the lines between furniture and space.
Cleverly Designed Paris Studio
Lastly, a 22-square-metre studio in Paris serves as a testament to budget-conscious design. Aliénor Louédin of Inaugure Studio transformed a deteriorating space into a functional living area, using salvaged materials and DIY solutions. The design features a multifunctional birch-plywood banquette that serves as seating and storage, emphasizing the potential for creativity in small spaces.
