The Somari collection by LightArt exemplifies the importance of adaptability in design. Adaptation can be risky; rapidly pursuing trends may dilute an idea’s essence. Conversely, failing to adjust to changing environments can be equally detrimental. This collection illustrates a thoughtful evolution in lighting design, utilizing advanced additive manufacturing with plant-based PLA and highlighting a future oriented toward more agile design processes.
LightArt's on-demand manufacturing model transforms production economics. Businesses often hesitate to utilize costly warehouse space for inventory that may remain unsold. By producing components only when they are needed, LightArt minimizes overproduction and the environmental impact, allowing them to focus on design and material innovations. This efficient production method takes place in LightArt’s U.S. facilities, ensuring quality control and responsiveness to project requirements.
Inspired by the warmth of lantern light, the Somari collection features three distinct silhouettes: Saucer, Cylinder, and Sphere, available in small, medium, and large sizes. These pendants can be used individually or arranged into stacked configurations, reaching up to eight feet in length, accommodating both vertical and horizontal designs. This versatility enables the creation of luminous columns, layered clusters, or simpler fixtures tailored to various spaces.
Each pendant contains a cylindrical Casper core that integrates LED lighting, providing high lumen output with a color temperature range of 2700K to 4000K and a CRI of 90. Tunable white options enhance flexibility, allowing designers to manipulate the atmosphere of a space.
The collection includes seven “Paper Series” colorways that accentuate the lantern-inspired shades: Shiro (matte ivory white), Halo (clear), Sail (translucent light blue), Clover (translucent olive), Rosa (translucent pink), Sienna (translucent brown), and Loom (translucent gray). Each ribbed shade, when suspended alone or combined, diffuses light softly, creating an atmospheric glow.
Produced in the United States and designed for customization, the Somari collection merges expressive forms with practical versatility. The Saucer, Cylinder, and Sphere pendants can function independently or interactively, presenting designers with a modular toolkit rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. The result is a lighting system that embodies softness while ensuring performance, suggesting new horizons for the production and experience of light.
