Michael Hilgers operates a design studio in Berlin, specializing in space-saving furniture that distinguishes itself in the market. His notable creations include the Cake Desk, which features a hidden work surface, and the Corner Collection, designed to utilize triangular shapes in innovative ways.
Another versatile piece, the HomeTool cabinet, integrates a work-from-home desk, a bar, upper storage, and a side closet. Additionally, the Cobbo bed caters to singles residing in compact studios, offering overhead storage while maintaining a small footprint. Hilgers notes on his website that he does not aim for striking designs; rather, he seeks to uncover the 'special in the everyday.'
His design philosophy, termed 'pragmatic design,' concentrates on addressing practical space challenges. Hilgers, a trained carpenter, consciously avoids conventional products, opting to create unique, tailored solutions. His approach leads to products that may appear familiar at first but provide innovative answers to common living issues through reimagined functionality and simple construction.
