The design industry is increasingly turning to LEDs as a sustainable lighting option. They use 90 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and offer durability that simplifies construction, installation, and transport. LEDs have a remarkable lifespan of about 25 years or 50,000 hours, generate minimal heat, and emit no UV rays, which helps protect finishes, fabrics, and artwork. This combination makes them a preferred choice for designers seeking both sustainability and practicality in lighting.
Given their low heat output and reduced carbon footprint, LEDs are becoming popular for illuminating cabinetry and storage spaces. They effectively brighten dark, hard-to-reach areas without the buzzing or humming associated with other lights. Additionally, LEDs can enhance the subtle design details of fine wood cabinetry and the items housed within them.
Luxury cabinetry manufacturer Wood-Mode is leading this trend by offering the Integrated Lighting Solutions range in collaboration with LED expert Häfele. This partnership provides designers access to Häfele's lighting resources alongside Wood-Mode’s expertise in custom cabinetry to address various lighting challenges. The series enables designers to combine style and function, creating a warm atmosphere while showcasing design features and illuminating shelves and drawers.
Under Cabinet Lighting
Under cabinet lighting enhances visibility for countertops and backsplashes and minimizes shadows from overhead lighting. An independent bottom panel allows recessed lighting to extend across multiple cabinets without using a traditional light rail.
Interior Cabinet Lighting
This option illuminates entire cabinet interiors, activating when the door opens. LED profiles embedded vertically in the cabinet sides are concealed under a diffuser lens, providing a soft ambient glow.
Drawer Lighting
Drawer lighting helps illuminate the farthest reaches of drawer interiors, enhancing usability and adding depth to surfaces. This solution features a pre-wired light bar with a switch installed at the back of the cabinet, activating when the drawer is opened or closed.
Down Lighting
Down lighting targets dark areas beneath shelves or cabinets, expanding usable space and adding a decorative touch. It can illuminate spaces like the area under a kitchen island to showcase items and improve visibility.
Mirror Lighting
Integrated LED lighting around the vertical sides of a bathroom mirror frame reduces harsh shadows and contrasting light. This design allows for a soft, diffused glow that enhances functionality and aesthetics.
Fixed Shelf Lighting
This alternative to interior drawer lighting brightens dark closet interiors, highlighting subtle design elements. Fixed shelf lighting casts a soft wash effect over the drawers below.
Wardrobe Lighting
Integrated pole lighting provides illumination for wardrobes, highlighting the colors and textures of hanging clothes. LEDs housed within a custom-length wardrobe pole, covered by a diffuser lens, create a spacious feel and eliminate dark corners.
