Blackmagic has recently released the Cloud Store Mini, an 8TB network storage device featuring four pre-installed 2TB M.2 SSDs. This device aims to simplify network storage with its user-friendly design, although some users might find it overly simplistic.
Compact Design
The Cloud Store Mini measures 8.3 x 6.1 x 1.74 inches (21.1 x 15.5 x 4.42 cm) and weighs approximately 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). Its compact size makes it suitable for transport in gear bags or Pelican cases.
Connectivity Features
The front of the device includes a rubber USB plug concealing a USB Type-C port for direct connection to computers. The rear features both AC and DC power inputs along with a 10Gbase-T port for 10GbE connections and a 1GbE port. Notably, there is also a USB Type-C port that can provide network interface card (NIC) access without needing additional dongles.
HDMI Output and Monitoring
Additionally, the Cloud Store Mini includes a 1080p HDMI output, allowing users to connect to a TV or monitor to view basic activity. Unlike traditional NAS units, it lacks a web interface, which simplifies usage but might not meet the expectations of users looking for comprehensive management options.
Improved Dashboard and Security Features
The device's management dashboard reflects improvements over previous models and now includes enhanced security features. These updates respond to feedback from earlier versions, aiming to offer a more robust user experience.
