In his new series, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces: First Home, architect George Clarke showcases innovative ideas for first-time homebuyers navigating the property market. Among various solutions for small-space living, he shares his own clever space-saving design: flatpack stools in his garden studio.
These stools are designed to attach to the studio walls when not in use. Each component is equipped with magnets, allowing for easy disassembly and storage as wall panels. Clarke describes the setup, saying, "There are panels of plywood on my wall, on magnets. You pull off one bit, which is one leg, you pull off the other bit, which is another leg, and you pull off the other bit, which is the top, and you build a little stool."
He emphasizes the practicality of this design, noting that it takes only three seconds to assemble the stool for guests and just as quickly to return the pieces to the wall when it's no longer needed. This multifunctional furniture offers a practical solution in a time when small-space designs are increasingly important.
